Multisequence MRI protocol:
MR images of the carotid artery were obtained on a 1.5T scanner using a dedicated carotid surface coil (both Philips Healthcare, Best, the Netherlands).
50 scans of TIA or stroke patients with ipsilateral <70% carotid artery stenosis.
Acquired pixel size was 0.39x0.39 mm2 and slice thickness was 3.0 mm. All images were reconstructed to a pixel size of 0.20x0.20 mm2 in-plane.

Automated registration of multi-sequence MR vessel wall images of the carotid artery. The duration of a multi-sequence MRI protocol is between 30 and 60 minutes. Due to patient movement significant misalignment may occur between the sequences. Automic image registration can be used to correct for patient movement.

Succesful registration requires the usage of a mask in the fixed image.
